International Romance on a Domestic Budget

Right about now, it's probably dawning on you that Valentine's Day is less than a week away and you still need to get your S.O. a present. At See Jane Fly, we love the gift of travel (obviously). Unfortunately, unless you're flush enough to take the private jet, booking a last minute trip to Paris probably isn't going to happen. So we decided to round up up some of our favorite romantic spots from around the world and their just-as-dreamy Stateside counterparts.
Tuscany, Italy /Sonoma, California
We'd all love to book a long weekend in Tuscany and sip our way through Italy's vineyards. Fortunately, you don't need to find your passport in order to enjoy a fabulous wine-tasting weekend. Sonoma Valley is home to scads of gorgeous vineyards where you and your honey can taste some of California's best wines. We especially love the tasting room at Chateau St Jean.
Venice, Italy /Venice, California
If floating down a Venetian canal in a gondola sounds like your idea of romance, consider taking your sweetie for a stroll through the canals in LA’s Venice Beach. Top the evening off with your own Lady and the Tramp-style dinner at local Italian restaurant, Ado.
Buenos Aires, Argentina / New York, New York
Bite down on a red rose and create a steamy South American night for you and your better half. Start with a classically Argentinean meal of steak, steak and more steak at the aptly named Buenos Aires in the East village. Afterwards, take a taxi over to S.O.B.'s for some steamy salsa dancing.
Sydney, Australia / San Francisco, California
A Sydney Harbor cruise is a must-do for metropolis-loving couples. With views of the Opera House and the awe-inspiring Sydney Harbor Bridge, it's a relaxing and romantic day on the water. For a close-to-home version, cruise around the San Francisco Bay and get a load of our own famous sites, such as Alcatraz and, of course, the charming Golden Gate Bridge. Not keen to take to the open sea? Then head to Golden Gate Park and rent a paddle boat for two on Stow Lake.
Paris, France /Anywhere!
Paris, with it's lilting accordion soundtrack and flaky pastries, embodies quintessential romance. To give your Valentine's Day a Parisian feel, head to your local gourmet shop, pick up a baguette and some truly fancy cheese and make a delicious picnic pour deux. Dine in the nearest sun-dappled park (or on living room floor if the weather doesn't cooperate.) Bonus points if you don a beret.
